A Rural Missouri Engagement Session | Horses, Family & Golden fields

There’s something so special about photographing a couple in a place that feels like home.

For this rural Missouri engagement session, we spent the evening out in the country with a sweet couple, their little boy, and their horses. Rather than creating a traditional engagement session centered only around the two of them, we made space for the little family they’ve already built together.

And honestly, those are some of my favorite sessions to photograph.

A Little Piece of Their Story

Engagement photos don't have to look a certain way.

They don't have to be fancy or overly posed. They can look like an evening spent at home, wandering through the pasture, loving on your horses, playing with your little one, jumping in the creek and soaking up the last bit of golden light.

For this family, their horses were part of their story, so of course they needed to be part of their photographs, too.

There were quiet moments between the two of them, sweet interactions with their son, and plenty of time spent simply enjoying one another.

Those little in-between moments are often the ones that tell the story best.

More Than Engagement Photos

What I loved most about this session was that it captured more than their upcoming marriage.

It captured their life right now.

Their little boy. Their animals. Their connection. Their home in the country. The season they're currently living in before their family grows and changes again.

Years from now, I hope these photographs bring them right back to this evening—to the way their son looked at them, the feel of the pasture beneath their feet, and the warmth of the sunset around them.

Because those are the things that become memories.

Your Story, Your Way

This is exactly what I love about the way I approach sessions at Rae Photography.

Your photographs don't have to look like everyone else's.

If your story includes a family farm, horses, a favorite creek, your children, a garden, or the places where you spend your everyday life, I want to incorporate those things.

Your life is already the story.

My job is simply to preserve it.

If you're looking for a Mid-Missouri engagement, family, or couples photographer who wants to capture more than posed portraits, I'd love to hear your story and create something that feels like you.
